Parents having sleepless nights trying to figure out how to do schooling come September?

This is the way I see it. The biggest problems we face, other than COVID 19, is that schools had become food sources for poor families and babysitters for working families. Personally, I think these two issues are the biggest problems and not ones that can be overlooked. And I suspect special needs kids will be more troubled than others.

But as far as schooling goes? I mean back when this country was founded one-room schools opened up to teach children to read and write and do math. Often, children came from homes with no books and maybe parents who couldn’t read. Children only attended school when life allowed it. This is not the situation now. Your children are surrounded by literacy and numeracy and most parents are well versed in both (Maybe not higher ed levels). But for the elementary students, please take away the terrible fear that you are going to somehow really harm your child if school isn’t normal for them this year. It’s not going to be normal for any kids. And it’s going to be hard to keep them from learning, especially if you strew things around as one of my homeschooling parents put it. Go to the library and fill your house with books. Talk numbers with your kids. Cook with your kids. Rake leaves. I mean they will be fine. If you don’t find a science curriculum for your 1st grader, not to worry! (Although I loved so many of the science books and experiments for kids)

So, if you work, be sure to solve the problem of childcare and if you counted on your children having breakfast at the school, reach out, I’d hope they are still trying to help with that but I’m afraid I don’t know much about that. As far as schooling goes try to relax and have fun. Talk with your children about what they think about this schooling dilemma. What do they want to do? They might surprise you. I’d be interested in hearing what they said?
